Roy Keane has identified Kyle Walker as the latest target for his sharp tongue after branding the Manchester City man an “idiot” for his “car crash defending” against Liverpool on Monday morning (AEDT).
The England right-back brought down Liverpool flyer Sadio Mane early in the first half at the Etihad, with Mohamed Salah confidently slotting home the resulting penalty.
And when analysing the incident at half time for Sky Sports, he couldn’t hold back his rage at how the penalty was conceded. When asked why the spot kick was given, the former Manchester United hardman hit back: “Because he’s up against an idiot.
“Kyle Walker… people tell me he’s playing well. I don’t think so.
“This guy is 30 years of age, he’s an international… he’s a car crash. He keeps making these types of mistakes – and he’s been rightly punished for it.”
However, fellow pundit and former Manchester City defender Micah Richards defended the 30-year-old, claiming Keane had been slightly melodramatic in his assessment.
“He’s been in good form – I think Roy’s gone a bit overboard,” he said. “He’s one of City’s best players, but he gambled there… he should have just waited.
“He gambled and before you know it, Mane was there and he took him down.”
